The WtE industry meets in Berlin for a “class reunion” – a report by Dr. Kai Kehrmann

The Berlin Conference on Waste Management and Energy (BKAWE), which has established itself as the who’s who of the waste-to-energy (WtE) industry, took place from January 29 to 30, 2024. This provided an excellent opportunity to capture the current mood in the market and make valuable contacts. In this context, we were able to discuss current trends and sound out the future prospects of WtE technologies.

We as Doosan Lentjes were represented with our own booth, the sales and product management team, as well as with a presentation on “Cost-effective CO2 capture by burning secondary fuels from waste with Chemical Looping Combustion” by Dr. Sebastian Schmitt.

I liked the open communication and the opportunity to meet many industry representatives in one place. I was particularly interested in the operators’ assessment of the technologies and the use of carbon capture, which differs greatly from country to country.

The knowledge gained here will be incorporated into our product strategy and help us to continue to meet the requirements of the market in the future.
