In this role of significant responsibility, you will assume overall responsibility for the planning, project management and execution of the commissioning of our international plant projects, ensuring they are completed to the required quality standards, on schedule and within budget. You will be involved in the commissioning process right from the tender and project planning phase, lead the commissioning team on site, coordinate collaboration with clients, suppliers and partners, and ensure that the contractually agreed performance and functional requirements are successfully met.

Your tasks

  • Overall responsibility for the planning, project management, organisation and execution of commissioning within the framework of international plant projects
  • Developing the project-specific commissioning strategy and drawing up the commissioning concept in close consultation with project management, engineering and erection teams
  • Drawing up the staff deployment plan for commissioning already during the tender phase, including the calculation of staff and material costs (e.g. TÜV inspections) for the subsequent commissioning process
  • Planning of commissioning procedures, including the definition of commissioning phases, system boundaries, priorities and resources
  • Drawing up, updating and monitoring the commissioning schedule, and liaising with engineering, procurement, erection and project management
  • Establishment, leadership and coordination of the commissioning team, as well as technical management of the resources deployed on site
  • Operational management of all commissioning activities through to the successful handover of the plant
  • Establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with clients, partners and suppliers throughout the entire project
  • Coordination and management of suppliers and subcontractors within the scope of commissioning
  • Verification of the completion of mechanical and I&C installation work against the specified Erection Completion Certificate (ECC) protocols
  • Organising and overseeing the transition from assembly through pre-commissioning to commissioning and performance testing
  • Liaising with the erection management team to prioritise system completion and ensure readiness for commissioning
  • Coordination of the preparation and implementation of commissioning procedures, test sequences and functional tests
  • Organisation and delivery of practical training for the operator’s personnel
  • Managing and ensuring the preparation of complete as-built documentation
  • Ensuring that identified defects are rectified, including their tracking and documentation
  • Providing ongoing reports on project progress, as well as the early identification and escalation of risks relating to quality, deadlines and costs
  • Ensuring compliance with all health and safety, environmental and quality requirements on site

Your profile

  • A successfully completed degree (from a University of Applied Sciences or Technical University) in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Energy Engineering or Civil Engineering, or a comparable qualification as a technician
  • Several years’ professional experience – ideally at least ten years – in the commissioning of large-scale plants in the international plant engineering sector
  • In-depth process engineering knowledge in the field of energy, power station or environmental plants
  • Experience in leading interdisciplinary commissioning teams on international construction sites
  • Knowledge of ECC management, pre-commissioning and structured plant handover
  • Existing qualifications for commissioning, such as authorisation to switch on systems or comparable technical qualifications, are an advantage
  • Work safety qualification in accordance with SCC or equivalent training for site managers
  • Very good written and spoken English; knowledge of other foreign languages is an advantage

Personal skills

  • Strong leadership and organisational skills
  • High level of initiative and a strong sense of responsibility
  • A team-oriented and solution-focused approach to work
  • Assertiveness and decisiveness
  • Good communication skills and a confident manner when dealing with customers, suppliers and project partners
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexibility and a willingness to travel extensively
  • A structured and goal-oriented approach to work, even under time pressure
