On 6 September 2024, the commissioning of the Dinslaken Wood Energy Centre (DHE) was celebrated at a ceremony on the plant premises in Dinslaken. Numerous high-ranking guests from politics and business were present, including the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy, Mona Neubaur. Doosan Lentjes was also represented by CEO Dirk Stokvis and colleagues from Sales & Proposals, Engineering and Project Management to celebrate this lovely moment together.
In 2020, Doosan Lentjes was awarded the contract for the construction of Lot 1 of the plant, which included the construction of two incineration lines for the thermal treatment of waste wood (furnace, boiler, flue gas cleaning). Every year, 190,000 tonnes of waste wood will be thermally treated here, saving over 125,000 tonnes of CO2 per year - an important contribution to reducing the proportion of fossil fuels required and achieving the climate neutrality that the City of Dinslaken is aiming for by 2045.
Minister Mona Neubaur was joined at the event by Thomas Schürmann, President of the District Government of Düsseldorf, Ingo Brohl, District Administrator of Wesel, and Michaela Eislöffel, Mayor of Dinslaken. Josef Kremer, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Dinslaken, also recognised the importance of the plant for the town and the region. The ceremony was hosted by well-known radio and television journalist Thomas Heyer, while the musical accompaniment was provided by the event band Saxvibes.
The Dinslaken Wood Energy Centre is a good example of how waste wood can be converted into usable energy in an effective and environmentally friendly way. It thus makes a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the region and shows what sustainable energy generation can look like in the future. We are very proud to be part of this project and to make our contribution to realising the climate protection goals in Dinslaken and beyond.
Against this background, we were delighted to celebrate the commissioning of the new plant together with the municipal utilities and to reap the "fruits" of our years of labour. The ceremony was not only a complete success, but also provided a good opportunity to exchange ideas with our colleagues directly at the construction site.
Incidentally, Doosan Lentjes and the DHE will be giving a presentation at the Berlin Conference on Waste Management and Energy 2025 (BKAWE), highlighting the concept, performance and initial operating experience of the Dinslaken Wood Energy Centre. This will not only honour the innovative character of the plant, but also show the way towards a CO2-free energy supply.
